Lyrics
I make this drive every year at this time.
Come the rain or the snow or the warm sunshine.br>
This highway’s lonely cross the dark canyon pass.
Gives me time to think back on nights of the past.
In the church I swore yours till the final breath.
I heard the priest tell the people ‘love is stronger than death.’

There’s a place a off the highway where the river once flowed.
There’s a truck stop in town. I sometimes go.
The waitress looks at me with something on her mind.
But, I don’t pay attention it’s just a waste of time.
In the church I swore yours till the final breath.
I heard the priest tell the people ‘love is stronger than death.’

When the night falls down the ice turns to black.
You slip over that line, boy, you’re never coming back.
It’s a thousand foot drop off the dark canyon pass.
When I think about the danger, sometimes I wanna hit the gas.

I see this place in dreams and memories.
It’s marked by a cross and some burnt down pine trees.
What God put together let nothing break apart.
I lay roses on the ground and carry you in my heart.
I think of our time together I know I’m truly blessed.
I’m living proof love is stronger than death.
I say to you now till my final breath,
Let the world know I said ‘love is stronger than death.’

The Story
"If you drive around New Mexico, you'll always see little make shift crosses on the side of the road. There are other places where the little wooden crosses are for evangelical purposes. In New Mexico, they usually mark a spot on the highway where someone was killed in an accident.
It can really make you ponder things when you're on a dark, windy stretch of Interstate 25 and you catch one of those shrines in your headlights.
I had attended a funeral and a wedding in very close proximity to eachother and it got me thinking. At the wedding, the Priest said 'love is stronger than death.'
Far be it for me not to plagarize a Priest. I was baptized Catholic afterall.
I wrote this one night after driving from Albuquerque to Pueblo, Colorado."
